The summary of the Strata-scapes project - 1st prize winner of the Europan Nederland for 't Zoet site in Breda, is published on the Studio Iza Słodka website. The Strata-scapes project proposes new way of urban development, building upon existing foundations and embracing traces of its pioneering nature. To initiate the development process, we introduce Basic Infrastructures addressing essential technical and social needs and creating fixed, public network on the site. We combine them with Testing Grounds—areas for experimentation, cultivation of bio-materials, and pockets of activities. We envision the site as a laboratory for local materials and a testing ground for circular reuses. Our ambition is to work with materials cultivated or found on-site to establish a foundation for future permanent programs and developments. The project was created together with Federica Zatta.Europan Europe Europan Nederland Provincie Noord-Brabant Gemeente Breda #CrossMark #Breda #tZoet #Stratascapes #NoordBrabant #Biobased #Placemaking

Huge congratulations to Louise Lenborg Skajem (Bio Design Fellow, 2022) whose Resting Reef project has won the D&AD Pencil Award for Future Impact!https://lnkd.in/e7GcbKSSD&AD Awards showcases and celebrates the world’s best commercial creativity in design, advertising, craft and production.Resting Reef is an innovative memorial and eco-burial service that regenerates life from the afterlife. It radically changes how we see and experience one of the most traumatic events imaginable. The service allows people to transform their ashes into reef structures by creating a unique formula containing human ashes and crushed oyster shells – two elements that nourish and enhance marine growth. It turns something that feels so meaningless into something meaningful. Resting Reef is redefining what a cemetery should become: a place that connects people with nature and reminds us that we are part of a larger ecosystem.Image credit: Resting ReefAlt text: An aerial photograph shows a contemporary pier reaching from a beach to a coral reef, with people walking along the boards.

Maritime decarbonisation is not only a technological challenge. It also gives rise to profound contractual challenges. Stephenson Harwood's marine and international trade team is working with BIMCO and another 30+ eminent companies and institutions on the Blue Visby Solution project, which involves both technological and contractual innovations, towards the aim of removing the single largest carbon inefficiency in maritime trade, the practice of ships to Sail Fast, Then Wait, which is responsible for about 20% of shipping's carbon footprint.Partner Haris Zografakis is speaking, alongside Grant Hunter, at BIMCO's webinar "Blue Visby for Beginners", which will be aired on 4 October. Details below.#Maritime #Decarbonisation #TransportationandTrade

🚢 🏗️🌆 We have completed an intriguing project in Ljubljana. The plan involves new construction interventions on the Ljubljanica River to enhance the tourism offerings. About a century ago, a complete infrastructure was built, and currently, 12 boats regularly navigate this section located in the city center. An exciting future plan is tied to these waterway journeys and the city itself, as our partners always think ahead, recognizing that we can help them effectively manage their underwater assets for maintenance and new developments. 💡Photos and drawings from a hundred years ago were the only records available, necessitating the creation of a method to gain a comprehensive understanding of the riverbed's condition. 📸Parameters like sediment volume and depths at specific points along the route are crucial as starting points for future plans, such as constructing a boat lift and a new dam. By collecting new data, we have created a visualization that offers the client a comprehensive view of various parameters, intricate location details, and improved navigation, facilitating effective planning for cleaning and repairs. 🗺️ #LjubljanaWaterfront #InfrastructureUpgrade #FutureCityPlans #UnderwaterManagement #HistoricPreservation #UrbanDevelopment #SustainablePlanning

🇬🇧One week ago, we participated in the convention, with Agatha Bedi, held in Manila from June 20 to 22. This event, dedicated to the maritime sector, gathered industries such as port developers, shipbuilders, equipment manufacturers, international carriers, etc. Participants were given the opportunity to showcase their expertise and discuss the latest technological innovations in the marine industry. We represented Seaboost , a French engineering company based in Montpellier, specialized in the protection and restoration of marine and coastal ecosystems, using tailor-made, sustainable and low-tech methods. We're delighted to have had the opportunity to take part in this convention and speak about the preservation and restoration of marine and coastal ecosystems:🔴 Coral reefs, threatened by pollution and climate change, 🔴 Mangroves, whose gradual disappearance is jeopardizing coasts, 🔴 Seagrass beds, which constitute one of the intermediate habitats essential to the development of many species (on which some coastal communities depend). Some companies are committed to environmental action as part of their Corporate Sustainable Responsibility strategy. However, in many cases, CSR projects do not have a resounding success for a number of reasons:👉 The preliminary environmental study was not carried out,👉 The methodology used is not scientifically based and does not take into account the evolution of knowledge,👉 The project is not scientifically monitored over several years. Many companies have shown a willingness to participate in preserving our environment. From now on, all that's "left to do" is to apply solutions based on scientific knowledge.#Mangroves #Corals #Seagrass #Rehabilitation

♻️🇱🇻Revival: Riga Transforms «Dormitory» into Eco-Innovation!Historical building at 11 Ziepju Street in Riga is set for a revolutionary transformation! The forgotten dormitory will become Latvia's first building renovated according to the principles of circular economy. By 2025, a new life based on innovative approaches to sustainable construction will emerge here. The project's main focus is on maximizing the use of existing materials and minimizing waste. New energy efficiency will be ensured by installing solar panels and heat pumps. As a result of the reconstruction, municipal rental apartments will be available here, including housing for large families, as well as social care centers.📈 This project will serve as a landmark for future construction innovations not only in Latvia but also beyond its borders. It underscores Riga's commitment to a sustainable future and marks an important step towards achieving climate neutrality.#Latvia #Riga #Ecology

🌍 Altaroad intensifies its international exposure 🌍As a continuation of our undertaken actions throughout 2023, recently we had the opportunity to take part in three major international congresses, showcasing our commitment to innovation concerning waste traceability and traffic safety on road infrastructures. 🛣️🚦 In Prague, we took part in the XXVII World Road Congress, one of the largest international exhibitions dedicated to road safety, organised by PIARC - World Road Association. We were able to establish useful contacts as well as share our expertise and our solutions with players from several countries who share the same concerns regarding security, maintenance, monitoring and traffic management.💼 At the world-renowned XVIIth AFTES international exhibition, organised in France by the French Tunnelling and Underground Space Association, we had the opportunity to meet major international companies, share our construction waste traceability solutions and explore new growth perspectives. 🔄 In Namur, Belgium, during the “Towards Zero Construction Waste” study day, organised by the Service public de Wallonie (SPW), we were invited to run a stand as well as present how the digital tools which we have developed facilitate the reuse of construction materials, and by doing so, contribute towards a more sustainable future. This was also an opportunity for us to meet and establish key connections for future projects and collaborations.#traceability #roadsafety #innovation #international #circulareconomy #roadinfrastructure #waste #construction #CDW

Green transition, innovation, and urban regeneration are at the core of Is-Siċċa, the latest project by #Pininfarina #Architecture. Spanning over 18,000 square meters, it marks Malta's largest regeneration space. This visionary project aligns with the Maltese government's commitment to transform a former fuel storage facility into a modern hub for recreation, research, and innovation. Is-Siċċa stands in harmony with the United Nations' Global Goals, employing natural bio-based materials and lightweight construction techniques. The goal? Minimize energy consumption during production and reduce environmental emissions. Our aim? To set a shining example as a zero-energy, zero-carbon building in the Mediterranean. Together, we're paving the way towards a sustainable future!
